First dinner in Reykjavik

The hotel here has a wonderful restaurant on the ground floor, and by wonderful I mean insanely expensive. We knew we wanted lobster for dinner, but that was about it. Our waiter spoke fairly good english and asked us if we'd like an apetizer to start with. We asked for some menus, stared at them blankly realizing we couldn't read a single word of it and simply asked him what he recommended. He brought out some large bowls of lobster soup. It had a tomato base, and was very rich and very good. The main dish was of course also lobster, but wasn't what I was expecting. I'm used to seeing them in the store weighing a pound or two. The ones we were served were much much smaller and we were given eight each. The lobster was delicious. There wasn't any butter to dip it in, but seeing as how I've only had lobster one other time it wasn't that weird for me. 20 minutes later they brought out little dishes of what I think was water with lemon floating in it, they mentioned something about our fingers but wasn't sure if I was supposed to dip the lobster in it, or wash my hands with it. We all left it alone. Dessert was scoops of sorbet for the adults, and bowls of icecream for the girls.

The presentation was really cool, like what you see on cooking shows on cable. It might seem fairly commonplace to some but seeing as most of my food comes in a wrapper with fries, it was definately a great experience.

  1. I hope the girls liked the lobster! Everything sounds so good... did you get pictures of the girls eating any of it? I know you can only get so many pictures on here, so I can't wait until you get home and we can have a slide show :) lol
